Summary:

Stack-On SS-22-MG-C

Our Opinion:

With drill resistant steel plating on all sides, 5 locking points and a combination lock mechanism, the Stack-On SS-22-MG-C has got plenty of safety features going on for it to help keep your stash of firearms away and safe from prying eyes. This safe has got DOJ approval to add to its range of security features such as steel dead bolts, live locking bolts and side hinges hidden from view. The triple number lock means that just about anyone with the access codes can quickly gain entry while those without remain outside regardless of the amount of force they use. Within the safe there are 4 shelves, each capable of changing their respective position to help manage content within. This safe is touted to hold around 22 firearms together quite comfortably and has a 54 inch height. Alternatively, it can be made to hold about 11 firearms with all shelves inside to help keep documents, ammunition and side arms together. The interior has got plenty of carpeting to help cushion your guns. One last thing, the Stack-On SS-22-MG-C is in accordance with the California Penal Code Section 12088 standard.

Space & Size: 5/5

First of all, it is actually close to a 22 gun safe but provided not all are large rifles. Weighing in at around 250 pounds, it is a huge safe, which is a good thing considering that it is a sub $500 safe. Now, as for the finishing, things could have been better with more carpeting, lack of glue stains on edges, better shelf attachments and so on. Thankfully, the exterior is well done with powder coating and stuff. Coming back to the space, I can actually hold my assortment of large firearms starting from crossbows, shotguns, auto rifles and so on together and still leave enough space to store documents, private stuff and even valuables.

Build Quality: 5/5

The Stack-On SS-22-MG-C is heavy, really heavy at over 250 pounds with lots of steel going into its construction. Even the sides are steel plated. The safe though can be mounted to the floor and it comes with mounting accessories. Even the exterior powder coating looks to be of a decent quality. Now I don’t expect the safe to stay pristine for more than a few months but at this price, you won’t get any better.

Security Features: 5/5

The Stack-On SS-22-MG-C meets the highest standard of safety as set by various government establishments. This goes a long way to show that most of the $500 has been spent, not on fake accessories, but on safety features such as the steel dead bolts, live locking bolts, combination lock, steel plating and so on. Overall, considering its price tag, I have to give it a perfect 5 by 5 for packing so many impressive features. I doubt if anyone can actually break in quick.

Packaging & Shipping: 5/5

The packaging for the Stack-On SS-22-MG-C is quite solid. Amazon.com had it so well packed that even though the external carton was damaged, the safe itself wasn’t touched at all. As for shipping, I paid only the retail value and nothing extra, even to get it into my basement, where I keep a few gun safes, some for review purpose others for personal preference.

Warranty & Maintenance: 4/5

Like I have said before, Stack-On is a dependable brand name. Moreover, with safes there really isn’t much to worry about. As long as it isn’t damaged during delivery, you can trust it with your life for a good few years. This particular offering from Stack-On is more of a budget range safe so do expect a bit of rusting to the sides and bolts. However, the warranty is something that you can’t really hold up on. It won’t cover accidental or intentional damage. Basically, nothing much comes under the warranty other than the lock itself or the hinges and bolts.

Our Overall Rating: 4.9/5

Simple in its construction with sufficient bolts and locks in place, the Stack-On SS-22-MG-C gun safe feels like a trustworthy gun holder. You can use it not only to stack up on guns but also your personal belongings and files of a private nature. Plenty of space and configuration make this safe a must have whether you are an avid hunter or a gun enthusiast. It is well priced and well made, giving owners the confidence that their prized possessions are always safe.

If the warranty sucks shouldn’t you give a lower score for that category? And what do you mean by rusting, have you seen physical evidence of this?

for the price you can buy better…DOJ approved only means it can be locked…its only 14 ga. metal ..like a file cabinet…you should look for at the very least a UL RSC residential security container rating…very least 12Ga. metal with a UL approved lock..Chinese junk, it would keep firearms away from small children…but not at all secure from burglars .

You list it being heavy as a con, seriously?
