Our Experience:

What makes a bank vault secure against potential crooks and assailants? The electronic lock with plenty of deadbolts, steel locking bolts and thickened reinforced steel doors keep the bank’s money safe. That is what you get with the SentrySafe G1459E gun safe without having to pay the $3000 or so that banks have to. In fact, this gun safe has got so much space that you could fit in an RPG launcher in there with a few rockets too. It’s designed to accommodate 14 guns at once with plenty of overhead space to stack up on ammunition and vital documents or other stuff. Never again worry about unauthorized access.

Space & Size: 3/5

Spacious enough that it can hold over 12 guns comfortably, I would go as far as saying that this is the widest safe in the market for under $600 at 57 inches high and 17.8 inches deep. The carpeting inside is decent with a good quality finish and the adjustable shelf too has its own purpose helping you keep ammunition and other stuff separated from the actual guns. The doors don’t have additional pouches but considering its size, you can buy a few cabinet door pouches and accessorize your own safe. I did find that the safe was good for about 12 guns provided they don’t have scopes and tripod stands but if they do then expect the space to accommodate no more than 9 guns at once.

Pros:
Capable of storing lots of guns, sufficient security features to deter intruders and a dependable construction with efficient electronic locking system.
Cons:
Unfortunately, it is not water or fire proof and has a heavy door but a lighter body so it tends to lean forward if it isn’t secured to the ground – needs mounting.

Build Quality: 5/5

The Build quality is decent with over 200 pounds of steel going into the construction. The door itself weighs a ton and if the safe is left empty, it might even fall on its face. Hence, always secure it to the ground before operating the SentrySafe G1459E. As for the interiors, the wooden shelf is thin and might cave under heavy load so don’t pack it to the brim. The carpeting is of a decent quality and it runs throughout the safe so you don’t have to worry about your guns scratching against the wall. The door closes smoothly and opens well, locks settle down quick, and bolts feel sturdy enough.

Security Features: 4/5

First of all, this being a below $600 safe, I wasn’t expecting great security features. The electronic keypad while is a bit slow to take in input, which can become an issue in emergency situations, it is still much quicker than fumbling with keys and trying to remember the correct combination. Moreover, because of the mounting accessories, you can keep your safe rooted to the spot and with the use of thick steel frame, live and dead locking bolts, hidden hinges, gaining unauthorized access into the safe is next to impossible unless your determined neighborhood burglars come prepared with a few helping hands and a crowbar. I did appreciate the extra key given with the SentrySafe G1459E which helps gain access in case the battery for the electronic keypad dies out.

Packaging & Shipping: 5/5

Amazon does an impressive job shipping the SentrySafe G1459E out. While you may find it cheaper in many places, the additional cost of shipping and setting it up will set you back a good $75. Not only did Amazon send it in a stuffed box with plenty of padding but they also accommodated my timings delivering exactly when I was in the house. Zero extra charge, excellent handling and great packaging makes Amazon the perfect place to source this safe from. I found nothing missing inside and nor any dents on the surface.

Warranty & Maintenance: 4/5

SentrySafe is at times known to make it hard for their customers to get support for their products. They follow stringent protocols and hence may request more than the usual documentation. However, considering the superior build quality of this safe, I doubt if you will ever need to call them up. As for maintenance, there is really nothing to worry about this safe. Just keep the bolts oiled, the batteries changed for the keypad and your key safely tucked away from prying eyes and you got yourself an affordable safe that ought to last you a lifetime.

Our Overall Rating: 4.2/5

There is nothing petite about the SentrySafe G1459E. Over 57 inches high, its big enough for the largest rifles and guns. So, if you have plenty of guns to keep safe or are looking at building up a small arsenal then the SentrySafe G1459E is made for you. Moreover, if you want a safer electronic alternative to entry level key lock based safes then this is a good choice. Its secure and ruggedly built to withstand any form of forced entry.
