I am excited to be teaching my “Sociology of Guns” seminar at Wake Forest University this fall for the ninth consecutive academic year, dating back to the fall of 2015.
Here are some ways you can learn more about the course:
[1] A PDF of the syllabus for this semester. (Those who follow closely will note I dropped the idea of having students write op-ed pieces and reverted back to the typical seminar paper.)
[2] A brief description in The Conversation’s Uncommon Courses series.
[3] A page containing links to dozens of posts from the first 8 years of the course.

Probably the most remarked-on aspect of the class is taking the students on a field trip to the gun range at the start of the course. It is probably the most important part of the class, too.
Our gun range field trip is scheduled for the first day of class again this semester (August 30th). Stay tuned for blog posts and “Light Over Heat” videos on that experience in the coming weeks.
