Our Take:

Like feeling the safety of your pistol butt sticking out from under your pillow? How about having a Gun safe specifically designed to allow easy access only to you with much more security than your pillow. The Gunvault GV1000D mini deluxe provides you with a safe bedside vault that you can store your handgun in without ever having to worry about unauthorized access. Its intelligent microchip prevents illegal access and actually shuts down the safe after a predetermined number of unauthorized attempts. Plus, you get to over 12 million codes to select from. Simply set your fingers into the grooves on the top surface and punch in the codes to release the latch and lock mechanism. It’s sturdily built with heavy duty metal casing and thick plates that will survive comfortably through a nuclear explosion. The computer even records number of successful attempts and unsuccessful attempts.

Space & Size: 5/5

Being a compact handgun sized gunsafe, the Gunvault GV1000D is actually quite portable and tiny. At around 13 inches by 8 inches, it has the dimensions to tuck it away underneath your bedside drawer or your office table hidden away from prying eyes. Moreover, with the space within you can store a spare clip along with the pistol or handgun, which is always a good idea.

Build Quality: 4/5

Build quality from the onset looks really good. It has a sturdy 16 gauge steel outer body that is closed with seamless hinges from within and a locking mechanism that is quick and efficient. I wonder though if it can withstand heavy abuse since it is kind of light at just 7 pounds. Nevertheless, for its size, it does provide a dependable ruggedness. The inside is lined with soft foam to cushion your handgun so accidental falls and bumps while mounting it or transporting it should not damage your firearm.

Pros:
Electronic combination with grooves to easily open the safe even in the dark, sturdy construction and just enough space for one spare clip.
Cons:
Tends to die out after a year and may need replacement or repairs from your own pocket. The smallest size is large enough for a single handgun and maybe one clip.

Security Features: 5/5

First off this may look like a biometric handgun safe but it isn’t. Don’t get fooled by the grooves for fingers, those are just to help you input the right combination even in pitch black darkness. As for the combination mechanism itself, programming it and opening it is easy once you get the hang of it. Moreover, it works off both AC and DC power so batteries kick in if the power to your house or office is disconnected helping you gain access even when there is no power.

Additional security features such as audio signals to relay a correct sequence and incorrect sequence helps in alerting those around it to a forced entry attempt. However, it does lock down after a few wrong combinations temporarily so be careful when using this safe. I do feel though that this is a good feature to have. And with the silent option, it removes all audio signals helping you get secret access to your firearm when the need does arise.

Packaging & Shipping: 5/5

I got the Gunvault GV1000D from Amazon and it was well packed within a bubble wrap. The actual box packing for the gun safe too was sturdy and had further layers of bubble wrapping inside. The end result was a safely delivered safe within a period of 3 days. My advice use Amazon.com for your purchases when it comes to gun safes. These portable units don’t matter much but for larger units Amazon definitely helps you save money on shipping and transport.

Warranty & Maintenance: 4/5

The warranty is for just one year and a few users have complained that the combination mechanism tends to die out after a couple of years. But for the price it retails at, it isn’t a bad investment if you are willing to regularly change the safe every two years. Maintenance is minimal with the Gunvault GV1000D and you only have to regularly change the batteries to keep it going.

Our Overall Rating: 4.6/5

The Gunvault GV1000D is a compact, easy to use and 100 percent secure firearm safe for your bedside safety. Priced higher because of its electronic locking system, it does offer more safety than an average lock and key gun safe. Those who keep a firearm in their bedroom and want to gain quick and silent access to it without letting others accidentally break into it will find the Gunvault GV1000D mini a great choice. It is sturdy, technologically superior and ergonomic too.
